Freeland Harris Consulting Engineers (FHCE) is a structural engineering firm that has been providing expert services for industrial and commercial buildings since its establishment in 1965 by Freeland Harris. Our firm has a long-standing relationship with Gray Construction in Bowling Green, KY, and has been their primary source for structural engineering, contributing to their success as one of the nation's leading design-build contractors for industrial buildings.

At FHCE, we emphasize creative framing and foundation design solutions that add value to our customers' projects while meeting current building codes to ensure the safety of the building's users. We believe that close coordination with all design and construction team members is critical to successful projects, and we offer 3D Revit modeling to assist in design coordination. Our services extend beyond issuing construction documents as we remain engaged in our projects until the building is turned over to the owner. We take a hands-on approach to construction assistance, ensuring that our design is properly executed in the field.

Our Team

Our team of engineers is a close-knit group devoted to providing quality service and building strong relationships with clients, project teams, and with each other. Trust and open communication within our team allow knowledge from our combined years of experience to flow into your project. Our team members have diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, allowing us to provide comprehensive structural engineering services.

Jim Johnson, PE, SE, is a Principal Engineer and President of the Lexington office. Jim received his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1987 and his M.S. in Civil Engineering in 1998 from Tennessee Tech University. Jim has designed and prepared pricing for various industrial projects, shallow and deep foundation design, load-bearing tilt-up wall design, industrial slab-on-grade design, conventional steel structures design, and multi-story process structures design. Jim manages the structural design of his team's projects and oversees operations at the firm, managing distribution of workload to teams within the firm.

Larry Antle, PE, is a Principal Engineer who earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1988 and his M.B.A. in 1995 from the University of Kentucky. Larry joined FHCE in 1989 and has designed and prepared pricing for various industrial projects, shallow and deep foundation design, industrial slab-on-grade design, conventional steel structures design, and multi-story process structures design. Larry also performs existing building evaluations.

Eddie Alexander, PE, is a Principal Engineer who completed his B.S. in Civil Engineering at the University of Kentucky in 1986 and his M.S. in Civil Engineering in 1995. Eddie joined FHCE in 1992 and has designed and prepared pricing for various industrial projects, shallow and deep foundation design, industrial slab-on-grade design, conventional steel structures design, and multi-story process structures design. Eddie also performs existing building evaluations.
