At PLM, we are a highly specialized electric power engineering consulting and design firm with a rich history of excellence. Founded in 1986 in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, we have since relocated to Marlborough, Massachusetts. Our team is composed of experienced, senior-level personnel who boast diverse utility engineering, operating, and consulting backgrounds. Over the years, we have established a solid industry reputation, having completed over 700 design projects and consulting assignments for over 200 clients, including a majority of public power systems in New England and New York, as well as power supply agencies, large urban and national rail systems, investor-owned utilities, independent power producers, and prestigious colleges and universities.

Our Services

At PLM, we offer a wide range of services, including:

System Design: Our team has specified and designed numerous substation, transmission line, and distribution projects, providing well-thought-out, cost-effective designs that meet all client requirements. Our detailed design packages often result in limited or no contractor change orders during the construction process.

Protection & Control: Our staff has evaluated, designed, and implemented relay and control protection schemes for generation, substation, distribution, and transmission facilities, as well as developed detailed protective relay settings. We also have extensive experience in conducting short circuit and coordination studies for utilities, transportation agencies, and industrial facilities.

Planning: Our team has performed dozens of system planning studies, working closely with clients to develop alternative plans and make final recommendations.

Power Supply & Rates: We manage over 900 MW of load for utility clients throughout the northeast (NYISO and ISO NE) energy markets, providing both long-run power supply planning and daily bid-to-bill services.

Technical Training: We provide detailed technical training to numerous clients, covering topics such as protection and control for operator and field personnel, system review for new employees, and more.

NERC Compliance: Our team has developed comprehensive NERC compliance plans for utilities in the NPCC footprint from the ground up, guiding clients through the challenges of revised functional registration criteria and revised bulk electric system definition.

Additional Services: Outside of the traditional substation, transmission, and rates, we provide a range of services, including operation/mis-operation investigations on transmission through distribution systems, owner's engineer services, comprehensive substation documentation review, and regulatory compliance.

Our Headquarters

The PLM corporate headquarters is located in Marlborough, Massachusetts. While our original and founding location was in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, we're proud to have relocated to a new facility that better suits our growing team.
