Our history began in 1972 when Tom and Bette Nieuwenhuis started Northwest Petroleum Service of Wausau, a petroleum equipment service and factory distributor. Their children, Jay and Jeny, joined them, and the company grew rapidly into the 1980s. In 1991, Jay and Tom recognized the growing need for specialized site assessments in petroleum remediation zones and launched a sister company, Remedial Engineering, Inc. (REI). This new company focused on environmental consulting, and Jeny joined part-time as she completed her college education.

In 1992, Tom Radenz, a professional land surveyor, helped the company expand into land surveying and civil engineering. A new facility was constructed in 1993 to merge REI and NPS into one convenient location at 4080 North 20th Avenue in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Over the years, REI has continued to grow, adding engineers, professional land surveyors, CADD technicians, and other environmental professionals to our team. In 2004, the company's name was officially changed to REI Engineering, Inc., reflecting our broader capabilities. The acronym REI stands for Responsive, Efficient, Innovative, and it's a testament to our commitment to providing the highest quality services to our clients.

Jeny became president in 2004, and Tom Radenz joined the ownership team. A new addition was also added to the REI facility. Since then, we've continued to grow and expand our services to meet the evolving needs of our clients. In 2006, we established an annual company-wide retreat to celebrate our successes, engage in team building, and have fun.

Today, REI Engineering is a locally owned company providing comprehensive services in Civil Engineering Design & Construction, Land Planning & Surveying, Environmental Consulting, and Regulatory Compliance. We're dedicated to delivering 100% satisfaction to our clients and fostering a culture of honesty, respect, reliability, dedication, and fun within our team.
