Providing Affordable Engineering Solutions for a Sustainable Future

The Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) is an international, non-profit scientific and technical society dedicated to providing leadership in the development and application of geologic principles and knowledge. Founded in 1957, AEG serves professionals in engineering, environmental, and groundwater geology, as well as other affiliated fields. Our members include geologists specializing in engineering geology, environmental geology, and ground-water geology, along with professionals in civil and mining engineering, land-use planning, public policy, and education.

The mission of AEG is to address the professional needs of geologists who apply their scientific training and experience to the broad field of civil and environmental engineering. Our members work closely with construction, foundation, and highway engineers, hydraulic engineers and hydrologists, and environmental professionals in environmental remediation, city planning, and natural hazard risk reduction.

Services Offered

AEG offers a variety of services to its members and the broader professional community. These include meetings, announcements, newsletters, calendars, publications, field trips, events, short courses, and sponsorships. Our meetings feature presentations by experts in the field, covering topics such as the use of photogrammetry in engineering geology. We also organize field trips to explore geological sites and participate in events that promote professional development and networking. Additionally, AEG publishes materials and offers short courses to enhance knowledge and skills in engineering, environmental, and groundwater geology.

What We Do

AEG is committed to advancing the understanding and application of geological principles in engineering and environmental contexts. We facilitate collaboration among professionals, promote education and research, and provide resources for those working in the field. Our activities include announcements of upcoming events, newsletters with the latest news and updates, and publications that share knowledge and insights. We also organize student presentation nights, networking mixers, and workshops on topics such as landslide hazard public policy and seismic hazard mitigation.

Our History

Since its inception, AEG has been at the forefront of geological research and application. From the development of geologic maps to the exploration of subsidence and sea-level rise, AEG has played a significant role in shaping the field of environmental and engineering geology. Our history is marked by numerous conferences, workshops, and publications that have contributed to the advancement of geological knowledge and its practical application.
