Engineers Without Borders is a global movement of engineers united by a common purpose: to address global inequity and injustice through the power of engineering. For over 40 years, we've collaborated with communities in over 60 countries to provide sustainable solutions to humanitarian crises, infrastructure gaps, and emerging development challenges.
Our Mission
Our mission is to harness the ingenuity and creativity of engineers to build a sustainable and equitable future for people and the planet. We work across four key areas:
1. Delivering Critical Infrastructure
We collaborate with communities to develop and implement sustainable infrastructure projects in areas like water and sanitation, energy, and transportation.
2. Supporting People in Crisis
We provide emergency response and long-term assistance to communities affected by natural disasters, conflicts, and other crises.
3. Inspiring, Building, and Shaping the Future
We foster a culture of innovation by supporting engineering education and empowering young people to become changemakers.
4. Nurturing Future Solutions
We invest in research and development, promoting the application of engineering solutions to address global challenges.
Who We Are
The global Engineers Without Borders movement consists of independent, autonomous organizations working in various regions: Africa, Asia, Pacific, Middle East, Europe, North America, South America, and Central America. We share common values and adhere to a set of guiding principles:
- Equity and social justice: We believe access to essential services and infrastructure is a fundamental human right.
- Sustainability: We prioritize environmental sustainability in all our projects.
- Local ownership: We empower local communities to participate in and drive the development process.
- Collaboration: We foster partnerships and encourage collaboration across the engineering profession.
