Our Story

Powertrain Engineers Inc., (PEI) was founded in 1995 by Mr. Edwin (Ed) Hahlbeck, a seasoned veteran in the gear industry with over three decades of experience. Ed's journey began in 1958 when he embarked on a mechanical drafting apprenticeship at Falk Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This early exposure to the intricacies of gear mechanisms ignited a lifelong passion for this essential component of machine design. Throughout his career, Ed climbed the ranks at Falk and later at the Milwaukee Gear Company, eventually taking on VP roles encompassing manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, and product engineering. His innovative spirit shone through his contributions, which included developing cutting-edge manufacturing methods, integrating computer applications in manufacturing processes, and pioneering advanced gear design techniques.

Fueled by a desire to deliver expert solutions and leverage his extensive knowledge, Ed established PEI as a consulting company specializing in the design development and analysis of gear drives and gear-driven machinery. Starting from a modest home office, PEI has blossomed into a thriving organization with two dedicated offices and a team of brilliant engineers and designers. Ed's guidance and expertise have enabled PEI to become a trusted partner for clients seeking innovative solutions across a spectrum of industries.
