Strategic Management Solutions, Inc. (SMSI) is a project solutions business that provides management, technical, and engineering services to the Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, National Laboratories, and industrial clients. Our key business lines include procurement and supply chain expertise, special nuclear material & high hazard operations, decontamination and demolition, and project delivery and integration services. Established in 1999, SMSI is headquartered in Albuquerque, NM, and currently operates at four company offices and numerous DOE and NNSA sites.

Our services are designed to meet the unique needs of our clients, who include the US Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Our team of over 400 professional staff possesses exceptional capabilities in technical and management disciplines, with expertise in engineering support, nuclear facility operations and safety, safeguards and security, decommissioning and demolition planning, environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) and regulatory compliance, IT and cyber security, performance assurance, and organizational improvement.

Our history dates back to 2000, when our founder, Lee Bernstein, initially supported construction and environmental projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory and telecommunications projects throughout the Southeastern US. Since then, SMSI has grown and thrived by consistently delivering and helping our clients solve problems to accomplish their mission. In 2024, SMSI announced its acquisition by Bernhard Capital Partners, a services and infrastructure-focused private equity management firm, marking an exciting new chapter in our history.
