Our History

Polston Engineering, Inc. was established in 1989 as a distinct entity to acquire C.A. Peterson of Highlands County, Inc., marking a seamless transition for Mr. C.A. Peterson's retirement. The story began in 1970 with C.A. Peterson, Inc. of Clearwater, Florida, opening a Sebring branch office while actively developing Sun 'n Lake Estates. Mr. Peterson held the esteemed role of District Engineer for the Sun 'n Lake of Sebring Improvement District. To further streamline operations, C.A. Peterson of Highlands County, Inc. was formed in 1983, operating as a separate entity from the Clearwater office. This structure served as a strategic planning step for its eventual acquisition by the dedicated personnel working within Highlands County upon Mr. Peterson's retirement.

Dale, recognizing his passion for the field, joined C.A. Peterson, Inc. in August 1978. He swiftly rose through the ranks, assuming the responsibility of managing the Highlands County office in 1981. His dedication culminated in earning his Professional Engineer license in 1983. The combined experience of both C.A. Peterson, Inc. and Polston Engineering, Inc., spanning from 1978 to the present, encompasses a diverse range of projects.

While Mr. Peterson resided in Clearwater, Dale served as his representative in Highlands County, performing many of the daily duties associated with the Improvement District Engineer. After Mr. Peterson's retirement in 1991, Dale's commitment continued, representing the Improvement District as District Engineer on numerous projects.

Throughout our years in service, we have actively participated in a multitude of projects within and for the Improvement District, including: road design, drainage design, construction supervision, water distribution system design, sewage collection system design, sewage treatment plant design, water use permits, jurisdictional surveys, platting, surveying, and construction layout for all aforementioned systems. Our work has involved collaborating with and acquiring permits from various governmental agencies, such as the Southwest Florida Water Management District, Highlands County departments, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the Florida Department of Transportation.

Expanding Our Expertise

Beyond our notable contributions to the Sun 'n Lake Estates, our expertise extends to collaborations with other governmental agencies, including Highlands County, the Sebring Airport Authority, and the United States Air Force, as well as various private-sector clients.

We have played a significant role, to varying degrees, in: planning, surveying, platting, environmental determinations, sewage collection and treatment, water distribution and treatment, drainage design (complying with County, SWFWMD, SFWMD, and FDOT specifications), road and street design, dredge and fill permits, environmental mitigation for projects across a wide range of geographical areas - Highlands, Hardee, Desoto, Polk, Okeechobee, Hendry, Palm Beach, Lee, and Charlotte Counties.
