Our History

Established in 1935 by William T. Whalen, W.T. Whalen Engineering Co. has been a cornerstone of the Attleboro surveying community for three generations. What began as a small private practice providing engineering and land surveying services has evolved into a respected firm known for its commitment to quality and client satisfaction. Initially serving government projects at locations like Fort Devens, Camp Miles Standish, and the Walsh-Kiaser shipyard, the company soon expanded to serve local builders, developers, and homeowners in the Attleboro area.

In 1947, William T. Whalen opened a full-time engineering service operating out of the family homestead, a testament to the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit that underpinned the early years of the company. For three decades, Mr. Whalen, supported by his wife Ella, his sons, and a dedicated team, built a reputation for reliable and thorough work. In 1977, William and Paul, two of Mr. Whalen's sons, took the reins, transitioning the business to a new era of growth and expertise.

The company's commitment to personalized service and professional excellence continued under the new leadership. When founder's grandson Mark T. Whalen joined the firm in 1987, having honed his skills at Wentworth Institute, W.T. Whalen Engineering Co. solidified its position as a leading surveying force in the region. Mark took over as sole owner in 2001, ensuring the preservation of the company's core values while embracing modern technologies and industry advancements.
