Our History

ZCS Engineering & Architecture, a name synonymous with quality and dedication in the Pacific Northwest, has a rich history rooted in a deep commitment to communities and a passion for innovative design solutions. Founded in 1978 by Richard Zbinden, then a professor at the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Zbinden Engineering was born with a vision: to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world engineering experience. Dick believed in nurturing young talent and providing aspiring engineers practical skills to thrive in their careers. This commitment to mentorship has remained a cornerstone of the firm's ethos even today.

The company's initial focus was on providing engineering services in the Klamath Falls area. Over the years, as the firm's reputation for excellence grew, so did its scope of work. In 1989, Russ Carter, an Oregon Institute of Technology graduate, joined Zbinden Engineering, bringing his expertise and further solidifying the company's commitment to providing top-tier engineering solutions. The partnership between Dick and Russ flourished, and they later formalized their collaboration, establishing Zbinden Carter Engineering, Inc. in 2001.

Continuously expanding its service offerings and geographic reach, Zbinden Carter Engineering eventually evolved into ZCS Engineering & Architecture, reflecting its broadened expertise and commitment to a more holistic design approach. This transformation signifies a dedication to serving clients comprehensively, encompassing not only engineering but also architectural needs.

While the company has grown significantly over the decades, it remains deeply rooted in its founding principles.
